VR Experience „Unhome“

A story that helps us understand homelessness like never before—because for the first time, we see it with our own eyes. Premiere planned for fall 2024.

TL;DR

Challenge

Solution

UNHOME is a VR experience that helps us feel what life on the street is really like.

Imagine losing your job. Then your support system, your savings—and your hope. You’re homeless. This immersive story is about surviving on the street, from the first morning of spring to the freezing night of winter.

Four chapters, four times of day, four seasons

UNHOME shifts the structural view of homelessness—away from prejudice, toward empathy. From helplessness to action.

This emotionally intense experience gives us a perspective like never before: that of a person without a home.

We understand how people end up on the street, how they fight to survive each day, and why it’s so hard to rejoin society.

Through explanation and empathy, UNHOME shows how even small acts of help can make a big impact.

"Welcome to a different world. Life on the street is nothing like everyday life. Survival isn’t really living. And there’s no break from the street. In this 15-minute VR experience, we offer a glimpse into a reality most people simply walk past. We want to make you think. And feel. Thank you for taking the time to engage with our project."
Dominik Bloh, the initiator and co-founder of GoBanyo, spent over 10 years living on the streets.

Story

We experience how someone can go from a “normal life” — with a job and a relationship — to living on the street, where every day becomes a fight to survive.

The protagonist can make choices and take action, but they have little to no real control over their fate in society. Life on the street follows a nearly linear path, where the only real decisions are about survival. You have to keep going until fate offers you a way out.

Tech

The experience was developed for Meta Quest using Unreal Engine to reach the widest possible audience.

Interactions are reduced to hand gestures—just like on the street. From small actions (packing, talking, begging) to major choices (fighting, hurting), each interaction can change the course of the story—right up to life or death.
